Top 5 Tuesday: Top 5 books I would re-rate

Hello! Hello! Hello!

Today is Tuesday so you know what that means! It’s Top 5 Tuesday. originally created by Shanah at Bionic Book Worm, and it is my absolute privilege and pleasure to say that it is now being hosted here, at Meeghan reads.

This week’s (April 13th, 2021) topic: Top 5 books you would re-rate.  Allons-y!

So for this one I had to go throw my Goodreads and really look at all the books I read and how I rated them. It has happened in the past that I have went back and re-rated some because I thought with hindsight they should have a higher or lower rating then what I gave them originally. I also feel that since I started reading YA just a few years ago I have sometimes been caught in the frenzy of some of the trending books. Looking back at some now I think that I would need to re-rate a few:

When I first read Ace of Shades by Amanda Foody I gave it a 4 star looking back at it I feel like it’s closer to maybe a 3 star. I know, I’m the Queen of 3 star reads. BUt this one, though I liked it, it was a bit too close to other books in the same genre that felt for me a bit better executed.

The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden is one of the weird one where I feel I under rated it. I gave it a 4 star which is a really good rating but through the last years I’m still thinking about this book and the quality of writing it has. I really think it deserves a 5 star.

I read Geekerella by Ahsley Poston maybe 2 years ago and I thought it was cute but I had some issues with parts of the story. I still gave it a 4 stars but after reading her second book in this series which I enjoyed quite more I think Geekerella was probably closer to a 3 star for me.

I read A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas 4 years ago I think and though it still has a special place in my heart I am not sure it is still a 5 star read for me. If I compared it now to other books I’ve read pretty sure it would be a 3 or 3,5 star.

Dumplin’ was one of the first book I read when I got into YA and didn’T really have anything to compare it with. I rated it 4 stars. If I would read it now I think it would be probably a 3 star.

Let’s chat!

What are books you would re-rate? Leave me a comment.

  1. Great post! I haven’t read all of these but I think I did rate TBATN 5-stars but I also rated ACOTAR 5-stars and would definitely change that now. Although I’ve been tempted to re-read it cos of ACOSF, I have a feeling it’d probably just put me off it so I’m not gonna do that 😂
